This energy drink is manufactured for athletes and sportsmen. It is born in a lab and proved in the field. It was the drink 1st developed for the University of Florida's football team, named Gators. (Hence, the name Gatorade). The assistant coach asked the university physicians to determine how could they reduce the effect of heat on the players and increase their endurance. The doctors found out that there were two major key factors for fatigue. These were fluids and electrolytes were lost (because of excessive sweating) and the large amounts of carbohydrates used for the energy were unable to be replenished.
The researchers started working on it and developed a well-balanced carbohydrate-electrolyte energy drink that would adequately replenish the lost carb and electrolyte through sweating. Soon after the researchers introduced this concoction, Gators started winning. The word about Gatorade started spreading outside. Today, Gatorade can be found on the sidelines of more than 70 Division I colleges as the official sports drink of their men's and women's intercollegiate sports.
