Dr. Vandana Shiva, founder of Navdanya, a network for organic farming and biodiversity conservation encouraged, addressed the workshop and encouraged the farmers to switch to organic farming. Dr. Vandana believes that organic farming produces more nutritious food while maintaining the soil health.
Prakrut, a three-day organic food festival began in Rajkot city on the 19th December. Farmers from across India displayed their produce and organic recipes at the festival. Organised by, 'Saurashtra Sajeev Kheti Abhiyaan', a farmers' group promoting organic farming in the state the festival was aimed at connecting organic farmers with customers. The festival also showcased educational videos and workshops on organic farming.
